Knowledge Transfer

My experience in the field of knowledge transfer began at a technical college. The management had a need, the proposed topic seemed appropriate (relevant and important). It was, but my self-interest in the subject was dwindling. As a challenge I had set myself, I went to work. It was a lecture with correct content on a topic that gives more pleasure in DOING. The screenshots, explanations and read (that’s how you do it in a lecture as I can remember) prepared content led to an unfavorable evaluation. Of course, I had invested so much time that I arrived sick at the first session. Stressed and tired.

Today, eight years later, that experience no longer happens to me. My most recent university teaching assignment had top ratings, so good it got me thinking. In my view, knowledge transfer has something to do with creating relevance for those involved (not affected, as in the initial example). Responding to their questions and problem views, the ability to take ignorance seriously and to get to the bottom of the problem of understanding. Although that also means not being afraid of your own new meters without losing face.

Due to my interest in teaching (knowledge transfer), which is more geared towards enthusiasm than teacher laurels, I have now looked at digital basic education a little more clearly. Before the summer of 2022, a lot was theory, today a lot should be and will be practice. Of course, it caught the eye:

“Basic digital education is implemented in the 5th to 8th school grades with at least one fixed hour in the timetable, resulting in a total of at least 4 annual weekly hours over the course of secondary level I. This also means an increase in the total number of annual weekly hours at secondary level I at 4 hours.

In order to cover the need for teachers, 150 new positions will be created.” (Source: Federal Ministry of Education, Science & Research, Digital Basic Education, retrieved on October 4th, 2022)

The teachers will feel a bit like I can imagine when I was a lecturer for the first time. It is relevant and important, but one or the other may not have the heart for it. Unfortunately, knowledge transfer (like advertising) has to do with feelings (of the teacher and the student) and with dealing with fears and uncharted territory. From my point of view at least.

Head people will probably have no problems with the challenge. In theory. Practical effects will accompany us in the coming years and will become visible in user behavior. That’s my assumption. Every change in our behavior has an impact.
